Counselling For Young People (14-18yrs)

The Counselling relationship

  • The counselling relationship is different to relationships you have with other people in your life. What you tell me is confidential (there are a few exceptions, but I will explain these before we start working together).  These are your sessions, and I am led by you.

  • If you want your parents to have some involvement, that is your choice, and you decide how much involvement they can have.

  • I provide a safe and confidential space where you can freely express and explore your concerns. I am not here to judge you or to advise you, I am here to support you find your answers.

What happens in sessions?

1st session is what we call an assessment – that may sound a bit scary or serious, honestly, it’s not. I am led by you, this is about us getting to know each other a little, what is it you want to bring to your sessions and what do want to achieve? You may not know, and that’s absolutely fine, many clients don’t know the answers to these questions, that’s one of things I can support you with.

In sessions following on from your first one I am led by you, meaning, it is up to you what you talk about, I am here to listen to what you are saying, to understand you and support you to find your understanding of what you bring.

You're in control

  • Talking can feel scary too, you don’t need to talk until you are ready to. I work at your pace. I have fidget toys and some games, colouring in (who doesn’t like to colour in, draw or doodle).

  • This is your life, so it is important that you feel you can be in control of it, and when needed, to know where to turn to for support – everyone needs support at some point in their life.

What can I support with:

  • Relationships with others

  • Identity (who you are as a person)

  • LGBTQIA+ issues

  • Neurodivergent concerns

  • Self-harming

  • Change

  • Anxiety/Stress/Overwhelmed

  • Loss

  • Studying/exams

If you cannot see what you are looking for, ask me anyway. I have no doubt there will be things I haven’t covered (I’m definitely not perfect, but I am human).
